CHATTERBOXES
ABOUT:
Term 1 was called Chatterboxes. It’s the art of conversation - with our focus equally split on high art and high conversation. The participants each selected areas of interest and were becoming excellent conversationalists on a niche suite of topics. They paired these topics with a high fashion headpiece look that we were in the final stages of creating - reappropriating op shop lamp shades as dramatic head adornments. They were collecting odd bits and bobs and bric-a-brac inspired by their topic and hot glue gunning these objects onto the top rim of the lampshades and spraying them all with white paint for a comprehensive aesthetic. They were also embarking on the final versions of paper chatterboxes that featured their topics which was to be used in their participation with audience members at chat tables.
THE SHOWING:
The final term performance was to be an avant-garde runway catwalk followed by dinner party like conversations at long tables with rotating partners and a lot of artistic flair. At each final chat table, the young people would facilitate the audience chat partners in creating their own personal and customised paper chatterboxes that matched their current areas of interest/conversation and each audience member would leave with these artefacts with the encouragement to pursue interesting conversation.
