THE MELANCHOLY
DEATH OF OYSTER BOY
ABOUT:
A deep development of misunderstood outcasts inspired by Tim Burton’s repertoire of work and in particular the book The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Tales. The young people were creating a company of characters responding to the terms: grotesque, haunting, dark, sad, gross, impossible, macabre, comedic, ridiculous. They had each written a self-introduction of themselves in the genre of sweet tragic poems. They were also creating bizarre and talentless talent quest items in solos/pairs/duos to be performed as their ugly beautiful characters.
THE SHOWING:
The content they were creating was taking place within the form of an odd and unsettling funeral for Oyster Boy. The young people were doing spectacularly in their creation and commitment to ghoulish outsider folk – they were building the skills of total transformation through costume, make-up, walk, talk, mannerisms and expression. It was freaky hilarious to behold.
